For our 3rd winter adventure, we decided to go to one of the most magical place of Sapmi: Kilpisjärvi [Gilbbesjávri].

After a - too - warm winter, a mix of rain, snow and ice, the weather decided to let us going north. The car full of gear. It was the time of the year to have a break in this hectic life.

3.03.2025 - 4 km

I started winter hiking with the help of the open wilderness huts. But since we discovered the tent hiking, huts became less attractive.

But some time, you plan itinerary. And sometime, it's the itinerary that change your plan.

When we bumped into this open hut, the cuteness forced us to stay inside!

Always good to be on the move after a hut overnight, we decided to head toward the east to join the valley down. There is no track of sight there, only some old snow mobile track for the hut maintenance, reindeer herding, hunting or locals. Everything was white from the sky to the ground.

I think I was looking for that part of the hike by crossing this immense valley surrounded by cliffs. But after a fun downhill into the valley and coming back to the trees after 3 days above them. I quickly turned into robot mode to ski the 10km, very straight, that bring us to the next, and last, cabin.
